Aldi are on their way to the Canary Islands. 21 new shops will open across the islands from 2022. The logistics centre will open in the municipality of Telde in Gran Canaria. We will probably see some supermarkets in Fuerteventura and maybe our city.

If they do their market research they'll realise that there's not enough customers here.

We find ourselves in an exceptional situation that requires adopting exceptional measures, adapting to the complicated economic situation that the residents, families and businesses of the Municipality of Antigua are going through, says the mayor, Matías Peña.

The Councillor for Economy and Finance of the Town Hall of Antigua, Juan Pedro Galván Lasso, reports that this Friday, March 19, is published in the Boletín  Oficial de Las Palmas number 34, the extension of payment in voluntary period, from April 1 until September 30, 2021, in reference to the Urban Property Tax, IBIU, and the Tax for entry of vehicles through the pavements and reserves of public roads for exclusive parking, loading or unloading of goods of any kind, VADOS.

Also and by Decree of the Mayor's Office, the extension of the collection period for the second voluntary period is ordered from 1 September to 30 November 2021, in reference to the Tax on Economic Activities, IAE, the Solid Waste Tax (domiciliary), the Tax on Motor Vehicles, IVTM and the Tax on Rustic Real Estate, IBIR.

In addition to reducing taxes and fees by 1.5 million euros, we also set the measures and facilities required by the situation, extending the deadlines for each voluntary payment period and we are studying the possibility of splitting the payment in those cases where this is required.

The Travelling Library - Biblioteca Viajera tours all the cultural centres of the Municipality of Antigua, recommending different readings.

The initiative is developed in the cultural centres with the proposals of the socio-cultural animators who recommend readings according to tastes or collect the proposals and titles of books that are required, says the councillor for the area, Agustín G. Rodríguez. "The Municipal Library gathers all the titles that we offer on loan, and with the Travelling Library, we distribute the most requested readings, bringing books and the temptation of reading closer to the localities where users live and reside", adds the councillor.

The mayor, Matías Peña, draws attention to the increase in the number of readers and users in the cultural centres of the municipality due to the exceptional circumstances we live in that force us to spend more time at home, but also, adds the municipal councillor, thanks to the work being carried out by the socio-cultural animators at the Caleta de Fuste, Agua de Bueyes, Triquivijate and Valles de Ortega centres, who, together with the Antigua library, are proposing activities, encouraging reading and the participation of the local residents in the town's cultural centres.

Tribute to the readers of the Antigua Municipal Library

Agustín G. Rodríguez, Councillor for Culture, has presented a tribute plaque to the oldest reader, Santiago Conde de Arjon, and the youngest reader, Laura Rey AAltonen, at the Municipal Library. The plaque is a sculpture that reads: reading leaves an unparalleled mark on life.

During the tribute, Juan Bolaños, user of the Bilbioteca, read a part of the book 'Las lenguas cortadas', written by the Canarian author Cirilo Leal.

The mayor, Matías Peña, highlights the cultural commitment of the residents of the municipality, both in initiatives related to reading and the high enrolment in craft courses.

Representatives of the Ayuntamiento and the Caleta business association, and the press, have all been reporting from outside the Costa Caleta Hotel where the Gobierno are reported to be intending to move migrants into from the Nave de Queso in Puerto del Rosario.

All are opposing the intention which has been done without consultation and at a time when everyone is hoping that tourists will start to return next month.

Apparently the migrants are already in the cOsta Caleta Hotel which is being used for quarantine purposes.

There were more protests yesterday with strong views being put forward by the political parties.

Whoever had the idea to put migrants in a hotel in the middle of a holiday resort to quarantine (even without tourists ) surely somewhere out of the way would be safest option . What happens when their quarantine time is up are they free to wander the streets of Caleta ?

@villan It's was a second-degree question Villan. So no spoilsport, simply a big humorous wink like Big Wink | Symbols & Emoticons

But to be honest, did you notice where our  Spanish soldiers are located and barracked ? There would be a lot to say about this but this blog is not the right place.

@geoffutv That's a very good question. Well, I seems I'm the first one to (try to) answer you.  So,   Maybe :

1. Drink (no,  taste)  mojitos

2. Have some nice tapas.

3. Enjoy some great meat planchas at Fado Rock.  I know, veg is not my cuppa  😉

4. A jump (not really a good idea) in the "piscina natural" https://www.google.com/maps/d/u/0/viewer?mid=144YRgoDGUVM46MG6pyu_GvXB9cU&ll=28.400689002177476%2C-13.85043356143398&z=16.
