A question if anyone can answer it.
I was in a bar last evening { the few of you that know me will know which one } and on the outside terrace, one of the local parties were holding a meeting, after which they handed out vouchers for a free drink to everyone that was registered to vote, surely this is tantamount to bribery? or am I overreacting?
It is Spain, John!
Local election day is this coming Sunday.
@caletafuerteventura Yes I know it,s Spain Stephen, what I cannot work out is what is different from what they were doing, and what Steve Lipner did last election by offering people lifts to the polling stations, now he was/is nowhere near my favorite person, but he was banned from standing and if I remember rightly thrown out of the party he was representing
The day one of them will offer free meals, please call me John 😆 . In some way, it is called 'political clientelism'.

I remember that incident. It was probably for the best!
I totally agree Stephen, but it is the principle of the thing.@caletafuerteventura Yes I know it,s Spain Stephen, what I cannot work out is what is different from what they were doing, and what Steve Lipner did last election by offering people lifts to the polling stations, now he was/is nowhere near my favorite person, but he was banned from standing and if I remember rightly thrown out of the party he was representing

The story from 2019 - https://noticiasfuerteventura.com/fuerteventura/nueva-canarias-amf-rectifica-y-expulsa-al-ingles-de-los-100-euros
Nueva Canarias-AMF has decided to expel Steve Lipner (Stephen Anthony Lipner) his number 6 from its electoral lists to the Antigua City Council, after 'NoticiasFuerteventura' revealed this morning exclusively that he was offering "serious" and "responsible" people up to 100 euros, in addition to food and drinks, for transporting possible voters on May 26, the day of the local elections in Antigua.
After a first verbal denial in which the relationship with Steve Lipner was denied, the NC-AMF management reacted this afternoon by announcing the immediate expulsion of Steve Lipner from the candidacy of the Antigua City Council, and the presentation of a request to the Zone Electoral Board to be replaced by another compañero."
On the other hand, Nueva Canarias "thanks those who have made Steve Lipner's actions visible, which violates the democratic principles and fair play that must prevail in any electoral campaign."
Previously, Steve Lipner himself has restricted public access to his ads on internet forums in which he offered up to 100 euros to voter 'carriers'.
The interesting words in the article are -which violates the democratic principles and fair play that must prevail in any electoral campaign."
Exactly Stephen although the amounts offered are very different does it matter?
As a result of the election the current mayor and his party stay in power.
