Buying a new or secondhand car
Hi can anyone recommend garages that are trust wordy for buying a second hand car or even a new car. I have heard that I am better going to Grand Canaria or Lanzarote and import from there but I don't want to go to all that hassle.
What documents do I need ?, I have my NIE number, I have my own address, and I will have a passport & drivers licence as proof of identity.
Thanks in advance

We bought our second hand VW Polo( ex hire car) thru Wieberen at About Cars.
He advertises widely on various websites.
All cars come with 2 year warranty plus he arranged car insurance which included breakdown cover.
We used both in our first year of ownership with no problem or extra cost.
Nice guy, very genuine and trustworthy. Did everything over the internet and met him and car at the airport.
The price was very competitive compared to UK prices, when exchange rate was around £1 - €1.40, so perhaps more expensive in comparison now.
I bought my last car from the Orvecame garage in Puerto (on the right as you go towards Las Rotondas) three years ago. It is an ex-hire car. They sort all the paperwork out for you, and the car had a one year warranty.
Our family have bought 4 other used cars over the past 14 years - two privately and one from Motor Eleccion in Puerto (just behind the Orvecame garage). All have been positive experiences.
To buy you need your NIE. I, personally, wouldn't buy from another island because if there is a problem whilst under warranty then you'll have to travel on the ferry.
My car insurance is through Linea Directa. No problems with them either as they have English speaking people on the end of the phone. You phone them if you have an accident or breakdown. In the latter case, they organise for a breakdown truck to pick up the car and take it to your house or to the garage of your choice. It's all free as it's part of the insurance cover.
