Antigua prepares the first Encounter and Sale of Crafts to be held in the main square on 20 and 21 November. Financed entirely by the Antigua Town Hall, more than 40 stalls will be present.

It can be held every year in anticipation of Christmas shopping depending on the outcome of this first edition.  There will also be a space for exhibiting the work produced by the students taking part in the craft workshops organised by the council during the year.

The Craft Meeting and Sale only welcomes artisans officially recognised as such, being workers of trades such as clay, palm, wood, fabrics and embroidery, metal or glass, among others, who will offer demonstrations to visitors or turn their own stalls into workshops.

The Encuentro y Venta de Artesanía will offer numerous surprises to the public, including live musical performances, enlivening a weekend of tradition and craftsmanship.

!!! Now !!!

The Town Hall of Antigua takes Christmas to all the villages of the municipality and this Friday 3rd December, Las Salinas del Carmen offers a family afternoon with a Christmas market, the performance of Sebas the Clown and the Christmas Trio.

"We want Christmas to be celebrated in all the villages of the municipality and not only in the main towns", says the councillor of Commerce, Pedro M. Armas.

The municipal councillor, Matías Peña, points out that "the collaboration between the two councils, Festejos and Comercio, allows us to offer leisure, entertainment and music in combination with commerce and the dynamisation of bars, restaurants and shops in each village, always supporting local consumption.

The Salinas del Carmen Christmas Market will have a variety of stalls, from glass objects, to decorative centrepieces, all the decorations and figures to dress the house, dresses, rag dolls, bracelets, pendants and silk fabrics, among others.

Good news for the electric vehicules owners.

"As part of the Puerto del Rosario Town Council's commitment to adapting its resources and means to the consumption of sustainable energy sources as a means of protection to combat and reverse the global climate emergency, while at the same time reducing public spending and serving as a model for citizens, it is providing charging stations for electric vehicles in the municipality's three industrial estates: Risco Prieto, La Hondura and El Matorral.

This new sustainable action has been initiated after the signing of the contract between the capital's consistory (don't ask me what it means) and the company awarded the contract to install these self-service stations with dual output for the simultaneous recharging of two electric vehicles in each of the three industrial estates: Etecnic Movilidad Eléctrica S.R.L., for an awarded amount of 94,017.35 euros and to be completed in nine weeks for its installation.

The Works and Services councillor, José Juan Herrera, has detailed that "the execution of these works includes the materialisation of a monolith where the different electrical panels and their corresponding devices for charging electric vehicles will be located."

There are a few buckets left at Superbarato (shortage at China Town)  Hurry up guys!! if you want to bring back some electricity for your home use.  ? Already have mine so please help yourself.

How do you rate the Town Hall portal ?

Automatic translation :

"The portals of the local councils have improved a lot in the last two years. But the objective now is to improve the compliance of the administrations' answers to citizens' questions," says Daniel Cerdán, Canary Islands Transparency Commissioner.

The transparency portals of the local councils on the island of Fuerteventura went from an average of 3.94 in 2019 to 4.61 in the latest evaluation of the Transparency Index of the Canary Islands (#ITCanarias), which is drawn up each year by the Transparency Commissioner of the Canary Islands. It is the only island where the municipal administrations do not pass the pass mark. While Pájara, Tuineje and Puerto del Rosario are in the range between 6 and 7, the other three municipalities (Antigua, La Oliva and Betancuria) do not reach 4 in any case and fail in Transparency,

Of the 347 public portals, 88 are of Canary Islands local councils and a further 102 are of public bodies dependent on them, whose notes can be found here: https://transparenciacanarias.org/mapas-transparencia-canarias/

Of the six local councils on the island, Pájara, Tuineje and Puerto del Rosario are the only ones with scores above 5, with Pájara Council having the best score: 6.73. On the contrary, the local corporations of Antigua, La Oliva and Betancuria have a wide margin for improvement in the quality of their transparency portals; especially Betancuria Town Council, which obtained the worst score of this group of entities in 2020, being also worse than the score it achieved in the previous evaluation.

The total eclipse of the moon will be seen in Fuerteventura early next Monday.

The moon will be slightly larger than usual due to its proximity to the Earth.

This will be the first total eclipse that we will see in Spain since July 2019. And we will have to wait more than a year to be able to see another one, as the necessary circumstances will not be in place until October 2023.

The lunar eclipse on 16 May 2022 will be total. In other words, the Moon will completely enter the umbra zone of the Earth's shadow.

No special equipment is required to view a lunar eclipse. It can be seen with the naked eye without protection, unlike solar eclipses. However, simple binoculars can enhance the viewing experience. In order to enjoy it even more, it is also advisable to stay as far away as possible from areas with light pollution. The darker the surroundings, the better.

In addition, the eclipse will take place in the early hours of Fuerteventura. This means that the moon will slowly approach the horizon from the west, where it will set just before the sun rises from the east. Thus, it will be better to have a clear view towards that point. This also means that we will have to get up early to see the total lunar eclipse on 16 May.

WHEN ?

From the island, the eclipse will be seen in the early hours of Sunday 15 May to Monday 16 May. Although the event will last more than five hours in total, from here it will only be visible for a little less than four hours, as the moon will set (hide behind the horizon) before the eclipse ends. Even so, it will still be possible to see the so-called umbra phase in its entirety.

In this NASA diagram you can find all the details about how, where and when the eclipse will occur. These are the times to take into account to see it from Spain:

2:32 hours on 16 May. First contact is made. The Moon touches the twilight zone, so the eclipse is barely perceptible.

3:28 hours. First contact with the Earth's umbra. The eclipse is already visible, although still only partially.

4:29 hours. The Moon fully enters the umbra and darkens, turning red.

5:11 hours. Maximum of the eclipse. This is the moment of greatest occultation.

7:21. In the Canary Islands the eclipse will be visible for even longer, as the moon will set at 7:21 local time on Fuerteventura. The Moon will leave the twilight zone at 7:50 Canary Islands time and 8:50 mainland Spain time.
