No more excuses to improve your computer knowledge and at the same time your Spanish skills.

"Antigua organises two free courses on computers and the use of digital technology.

Those interested can obtain further information and formalise their enrolment at the Department of Culture and Education of the Antigua Town Hall or by calling 928549653, the only requirement being that they be over 16 years of age."

Do you use face masks and/or hydroalcoholic gel ? Reusable or single- use masks ?  Where do you buy them on the island  ?

For my own,  I have several reusable ones. Two were bought in a pharmacy, the others come from different authorities/administrations.

My wife has made some face masks from material, and we have some bought from the Chemist and Mercadona.

The Antigua Town Hall has created a job bank for the recruitment of administrative staff in order to cover the vacancies and positions available in the municipal institution.

The Mayor, Matías Peña García, promotes and signs the resolution agreed in September of this year that allows the publication of the Call for Specific Bases in the BOP Las Palmas this Monday, October 5, by which those interested can submit from today until October 25, the applications to join the Administrative Reserve Stock Exchange in the Town Hall of Antigua.

The creation of this Job Bank is intended to ensure the continuous administrative attention that residents in the municipality deserve, says the mayor, giving a quick response to the services that must be provided when workers leave the Town Hall of Antigua.

Depending on the position to be filled, they can be hired through an employment or civil service relationship and after passing a competitive examination system. Applications must be submitted to the General Registry of the Antigua Town Hall within 20 calendar days from the day following the publication of the announcement of the call in the BOP Las Palmas where the complete rules can be consulted, as well as on the Electronic Bulletin Board of the Town Hall.

The creation of this Employment Bureau is to resolve and act effectively in the face of vacancies in administrative posts in the Town Hall of Antigua, avoiding the consequences that this may have on the correct service to the residents of the municipality, concludes the municipal councillor, Matías Peña.

"The Antigua Town Hall from the Department of Culture renews the book bank of the Municipal Library every quarter with the latest published and most requested titles.

Given the situation created by the COVID19 we must avoid travelling as the main security measure, so we have decided to bring reading closer to its users with the Traveling Library initiative, says the councillor for Culture, Agustín G. Rodríguez.

All the residents will be able to enjoy the collection of titles and publications housed in the Municipal Library without having to travel to Antigua, and the councillor adds, only by going to their nearest cultural centre in Triquivijate, Caleta de Fuste, Valles de Ortega and Agua de Bueyes.

The City Council of Antigua is committed to increasing the number of readers in the municipality, as it is a guaranteed option for personal enjoyment and learning, says the mayor Matías Peña García, with the initiative the Traveling Library not only brings books closer to readers but also prevents a bad economic situation from interrupting a cultural and educational habit such as reading.

All the books can be enjoyed on loan or in reading rooms, in the municipality's cultural centres in the afternoons, or in the Antigua Municipal Library on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays from 2pm to 8pm, always in compliance with the health and hygiene regulations that we must follow and apply in prevention before COVID 19."

Good initiative !

Antigua's shops will be able to count on a personalized video for free to advertise their establishments

The mayor, Matías Peña points out "that this initiative is offered to all the businesses of the Municipality without exception, more than 200 advertising spots that we will also share on the social networks of the Antigua City Council". And he adds "that this ambitious and direct proposal to the sector of commerce in the municipality and its professionals, an initiative that will be accompanied by other support measures that encourage sales at the end of the year and the beginning of the next ».

Don't want to open a new topic but it could interest some of you.  I happened yesterday afternoon/evening  in the east coast of the island. Rather spectacularand frightening.  It seems that during the afternoon five people who were on the beach and were isolated by the collapse were evacuated by an GES helicopter.

Initiatives : The British Consulate and the town of Antigua coordinate actions to inform on Brexit.

"

The Mayor of Antigua, Matías Peña and the Councillor for Tourism and Beaches, Deborah Edgington, met with the head of the British Consulate in the Canary Islands, Jakie Stevenson and the coordinator of the AgeinSpain project, Deepika Harjani.

The British representative expressed her concern about the lack of information that the British community has regarding the new features of the Brexit process, as well as the anomalous situation that exists in both countries with a variable regulatory framework, which is continually adapting to the Covid-19 health situation.

In this sense, the British Consulate is promoting the ageinSpain campaign by providing information, advice and direct support to the British resident community, especially those over 60 or with mobility problems.

The initiative is well received by this municipality of Antigua because it is a way of strengthening social care for this community resident in the municipality, mainly in Caleta de Fuste and which has more than 2,000 people, says the mayor, Matías Peña.

From the Department of Tourism we are responding to the request of the British Consulate, collaborating in the campaign to attract volunteers who are British residents or bilingual people, who have a computer to receive training courses and a guide on how to collaborate in this campaign of information, advice and direct support to residents over 60 years, with reduced mobility or in an emergency situation.

The Antigua Town Hall website, detailed by Councillor Edgington, has a prominent tab where this campaign can be consulted, as well as announcing the contact for further information on the ageinSpain campaign on the telephone number 932209741 or on the website www.ageinspain.org

Collection points for plastic tops have been put in various places in the Municipality. The tops will be recycled and raise money for charity.

In Caleta there is one at the Plaza and another in upper Caleta (which I will have to find).

I used to take mine to Puerto del Rosario, so my latest collection will stay here in Caleta.
