I've just read on Fb that the Tirol/Captains has closed down for good. Another sad loss to Caleta.
Sad indeed.
To this day I cannot fathom why El Captain had to relocate when it did. The rental that must have been lost by the landlord due to both Residences and the bar relocating must run into the 10's of thousands.
@fatherted Good point. They cannot blame covid. Those businesses were kicked out well before. El Capitan was a real loss for me and I still feel sad whenever I pass the site 😢
@villan Used to spend a lot of time at “ cappies ” . Lads would drink here , wives would go across to Barcelo hotel to watch entertainment. Sad to see them relocate, never the same. Big loss to Caleta.
I’m gong to miss Tiroli bar, I used pop in for a foreign beer 🍻 or 3 while the wife was off getting her nails done down the way. Nice tapas nibbles as well.

I walked past last Friday and there were 2 A boards outside saying 'Temporarily Closed, Back Soon'.
I thought it was linked to the work going on above in the former Banco Santander.
@villan I was meaning the loss of rental income not blaming covid as it wasn't even thought about in them there days.
I understand and I totally agree. I thought the whole of that complex was going to have an immediate refurbishment once those businesses were moved out. If I made business decisions like that with the unecessary loss in revenue I would be out on my ear. As I alluded to, the decision makers cannot blame covid as all those moves were well before. Still does not bring El Capitan back though 😥
From what I've read on another FB page, Peter the owner of Tirol is ill, so the bar is closed at the moment.
Let's hope he makes a recovery and the bar reopens.
Any news on Peter and the Tirol?
I haven't seen or heard anything more. It's so quiet here that I imagine it won't reopen for some time yet.
@caletafuerteventura yes, our 4th trip has just been cancelled for March and I doubt if our May trip will be going either. Stay safe everyone.

I refer to a conversation I had with a Jet2 Customer services representative a couple of weeks ago. They had a managers team meeting on the morning of my call and were told that the company was hoping to commence tourist travel by the start of the kids summer holidays "at the earliest".
