Battle of Tamasite Celebrations and San Miguel Fiesta in Tuineje

Every year, on October 12th and 13th, there is a celebration by the local people in the Tuineje area. In 1740 the locals defeated the English pirates who landed at Gran Tarajal in 1740.

The locals fought the English at two battles – El Cuchillete on 13th October and Tamasite on 24th November.

A re-enactment of the British pirates landing on the beach in Gran Tarajal takes place in the town at midday on 12 October. This is followed by a street parade. Leading up to this day there are re-enactments and celebrations in the villages and towns of Antigua, Pajara, Tarajalejo,Tuineje and Tiscamanita.

A ‘battle’ then takes place at Llano Florida, just outside Tuineje, on the morning of 13th October.

These events take place at the same time as the Fiesta of San Miguel in Tuineje. On the evening of 12th October there is a very big, traditional parade – a Romeria – through Tuineje.
