Antigua and Municipality

Antigua is a small town and a municipality in central Fuerteventura. In total there is a population of around 12,000.

The town is worth a visit to see the Antigua Windmill and Cheese Museum (just north of the centre), the church in the centre and it’s adjacent plaza, and the local bars.

In the Municipality there is the resort of Caleta de Fuste, the Salinas del Carmen (salt pans and Salt Museum), the protected Malpais Grande (volcanic lava field landscape) and the national monument of Caldera de Gairia (extinct volcano).

The municipality is also the location for the annual agricultural fair (FEAGA) in April at Pozo Negro and the Craft Fair at the Cheese Museum site during the second week of May.
